Inspired by the Nuit Blanche (“White Night”) festival in Paris, the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division hired CARS to produce what has become the most highly attended art event in Los Angeles history and the first “Nuit Blanche” in the United States. In 2008, this groundbreaking, dusk-to dawn, 12-hour festival was attended by over 250,000 people, and in 2010, a 7pm – 3am iteration attracted 150,000. Both years, the festival used close to two-dozen site-specific installations by artists on the subject of light to activate almost a mile of Pacific coastline. In 2008 and 2010, CARS created and managed all production aspects, coordinated and facilitated artist technical needs and acted as intermediary between artists and city departments. CARS also oversaw infrastructure and supervised all staff and volunteers
