A 15-year anniversary usually warrants a crystal gift, but the 15-year anniversary of Ethio Cali is taking the form of a concert on the Grand Performances stage. The LA-based Ethio-Jazz ensemble led by trumpeter and composer Todd Simon has built its sound on the golden age of Ethiopian music of the 1960s and 70s, filtered through a Los Angeles lens. Having played at locations like LACMA, the Broad Stage, the Blue Whale, and Levitt Pavilion, we can confidently say: they are pretty cool.
